WARRIORS COME OUT TO PLAY

Warriors Come Out To Play
CEMETI ART HOUSE
2014
‘Warriors Come Out To Play’ is a suite of works that draws its cue from two dystopian cult films released in 1979, America’s The Warriors and Australia’s Mad Max.

Commenting on social hypotheses of modern Australia, a place where bikie culture and outlaw behaviour is prevalent, Reko Rennie incorporates his immediately recognisable high key colours and diamond patterning amongst black leather patch designs. These designs are idiosyncratic emblems of Rennie’s Aboriginal heritage. They speak of his Kamilaroi background, his upbringing in Melbourne’s western suburbs, and the influences of graffiti and pop art in his formative years.
